Looe Primary Academy   The end of term and Happy Christmas!

by Jasmine Bolger

The end of term and Happy Christmas!

The children have been absolutely amazing this term and have worked so hard. We have had special visitors in our class this December! We found the elves under the tree at the start of December and they have been up to mischief ever since! We have had to keep a close eye on those cheeky elves, and the children have definitely been keeping them in check!

We have also had our Christmas performances. Foundation were absolutely brilliant in their first Nativity. They sang beautifully and the performance was wonderful. Year 1 performed in our Christmas play ‘The Fleece Force.’ They worked really hard to remember all the songs and the play was brilliant. Thank you all for coming along and supporting.

We have done some lovely Christmas activities to end the term, including our Christmas crafternoon! We have also been making Nativity stick puppets, decorating Christmas trees, using our cutting skills to decorate baubles and many more!

Thank you for all your support.

I hope the children have a very well deserved break. Happy Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!

Hard to believe that we have reached the Christmas holiday! This term has been a long one but the learning, attitude and kindness to each other has really showed the caring nature at Darite. The children have done so well this term with all the changes to the school structure and the learning has again been superb. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of the school. There is a lot to tell you about the last few weeks, starting with Class 2's collaboration with Trenode last Wednesday as part of their geography work. They walked to the moor to find the start of the river Seaton and were joined in this by Mr Abraham and his class from Trenode Academy. The children made friends and the children at Darite really enjoyed showing the visitors around the area. They looked at the mine workings and how humans have affected the physical geography of the area with spoil heaps, dams to create the donkey pool and the pits in the South Caradon mine. The children had a great time and were superb ambassadors for the school and themselves. It is great to have chances to work closely with other schools in the trust and we have already put plans in action to visit Trenode and Blisland later in the year. The nativity performances were, as always, stunning with the children giving their all in both shows. As I said on the night, Christmas in a primary school is a magical place and time and shows like this week's are a prime example of why we all love what we do. Thank-you to everyone who was able to come and watch the show. The whole school had a warm- up last Wednesday when we sang to the Darite Village Lunch Club. The comments from the members were amazing with some comments of "What a pleasure to see happy children singing so well." and " Thanks to Darite School (pupils and staff) for the festive singing". Darite really is a special place to be! In addition to these things, our Reindeer Run also made the Cornish Times. Click the link here to view the story about the "Prancing Pupils" charity efforts. Thank-you also to the PTFA (and Father Christmas) for making the Christmas Fayre such a memorable event. Christmas is a magical time and having Father Christmas come to visit also made it really special. Thank-you to everyone who was able to come and spend their money on the arts, crafts and games last Friday. Between the fayre and the reindeer competition, the PTFA raised an amazing £358.30! This money will really help current and future children at Darite. The annual Christmas lunch on Wednesday was delicious as always. The children were able to enjoy a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and there were some very full up children in the afternoon! Thank you to the wonderful Lisa for her hard work in making the meal so special again. To cap the term, the class parties yesterday afternoon were fun packed and full of laughter, fun and food! Thank-you to those of you who were able to donate food - we has so much that we were able to have another snack this morning! As you can see, Darite is always a special place to learn and work. On behalf of the staff at Darite, I'd like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a relaxing New Year. Whatever you choose to do, I hope you are able to relax with friends and family. Just a reminder that Monday the 6th is an INSET day and we are looking forward to seeing the children back on the 7th. Have a wonderful holiday, Mr Whipps. Have a wonderful holiday.

Friday 20th December

Wow! We have reached the end of term!

I cannot believe that the Foundation children have completed a whole term already!

Time flies when you’re having fun they say, and we have had SOOOOO much fun learning and exploring this term!

We are so proud of all that the children have achieved and how they have progressed!

This week has been full of Christmas exploring in class. We have explored The Christmas Story in more detail, we have had fun creating lots of Christmas crafts and following verbal and visual instructions to make special things to come home!

We also had the Christmas disco, and class party which were both great fun. Wednesday was Christmas jumper and lunch day, and the children looked amazing!

This time of year, is always very busy and tiring so we wish you and your children a very happy, relaxed festive time at home and we look forward to seeing all the children back to school for the spring term on Tuesday 7th.

w/e 20.12.24

We've had a busy last week full of festive cheer. We have enjoyed Christmas performances, visiting the Baptist church for their live nativity, had a wonderful Christingle and enjoyed Jane’s yummy Christmas dinner. Also, we carolled at St. Anne's on Tuesday afternoon where the children proudly sang.

As well as all of this, the children have written fantastic 'Hansel and Gretel: Volcano Adventure' stories, using the skills they have learnt in our narrative English unit. They also displayed their great knowledge in Geography answering 'How Active is our Planet?'

It’s been a busy Autumn term and I wish you all a wonderful and restful Christmas and New Year! See you in 2025!

'Twas the night before Christmas...

This week has been so busy!!

We had a trip to the Saltash Baptist Church for their interactive nativity, which we loved. After that, we watched the KS2 Christingle dress rehearsal (some of you may have been lucky enough to visit St. Stephen's Church on Wednesday evening too) at school. Later on Wednesday, we watched a mesmerizing performance from the Ballare Ballet School - it was AMAZING!  On Thursday we were very lucky as we watched Santa (Live from the North Pole!) read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' to the children and we sang some of his favourite Christmas songs.  Today, the Rev. Parkman led our final assembly of 2024 wishing everyone a very peaceful and merry Christmas.

And now it's time to say goodbye to 2024 and wonder what delights 2025 might bring and so as the famous poem says...

HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!

We also finished off our DT project of making Tudor houses following our designs...

December 2024

Year 5 have been enjoying the Christmas festivities in the last week. We have been looking at the narrative poem Twas the Night Before Christmas - understanding it, editing it and performing it. We had an absolutely delicious lunch cooked for us - enjoying some music and party crackers.
Finally, we've had our family Christingle assembly where some of the class participated in our final poem performance in front of the whole school and parents!

So, all that leaves me to say is... Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night!

What a fantastic couple of weeks we've had here at Polruan School! The end of term has been filled with excitement, creativity, and festive cheer.
We kicked things off with our amazing Nativity performance. The children worked so hard, and it truly showed as they brought the story of Christmas to life with enthusiasm and joy. We couldn’t be more proud of their dedication and energy—it was a performance to remember!
In addition to our Nativity, we had a fun trip to the Cinema to see Paddington 3. The children thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and it was a great way to relax and bond before the holidays. There were lots of smiles, laughs, and conversations about Paddington’s latest adventures!
One of the highlights of the season has been our lovely singing around the Christmas tree. The children’s voices filled the air with festive spirit, and we also enjoyed a heartwarming service today, marking a special end to the term. It’s always wonderful to come together as a school community, reflecting on the year gone by and celebrating the joy of the season.

Our poetry unit came to a beautiful close as the children finished writing their lovely festive poems. Their creativity and skill have really shone through in their writing, and we’ve been so impressed with their work. What great poets we have at Polruan!

In Art, we wrapped up our work thinking carefully about the word "composition" as we created our final pieces. The children have been so thoughtful in their approach to art, focusing on how to balance colors, shapes, and textures to create something special.

Our Geography unit also came to an end with a fascinating comparison between life in Shanghai and our own town of Polruan. The children have learned so much about different cultures and environments, and it was a great way to wrap up our studies for the term.

As we head into the holiday season, we want to take a moment to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday, January 7th for another exciting term ahead!
With best wishes
Mrs. Fernie, Mrs. Andrew, Mrs. Hicks, and Miss Talbot

WOW! What an amazing term we have had in 5/6MG!

Thank you to all of those who were able to join us for our class assembly last half term and our parent afternoon this half term. It has been wonderful to see the pupils sharing their work and excitement for learning with all of you. This half term the pupils have developing their dance skills in PE, advancing their descriptive writing in English, overcoming their fear of fractions in Maths, creating portraits in Art and learning about natural resources in Geography - it's been a busy term and the pupils have displayed their determination

We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the school holidays. We're looking forward to seeing you again on Tuesday 7th January.

Best wishes and a Happy New Year,

The 5/6MG Team

Friday 6th December

This week has been another busy and exciting one at school as the children continue to work hard and have lots of fun in their lessons! Here’s a little look at what we’ve been up to:

Nativity Play Preparations.
Our young performers have been busy practicing songs and learning their lines for the upcoming Nativity Play next week. The excitement is building, and we can't wait to see all their hard work come together on stage. It's always such a magical experience, and we're sure this year’s performance will be extra special!

Maths
In Maths, we’ve just wrapped up our units on addition and subtraction. The children have really grasped these concepts and are ready to tackle our next challenge: shapes! We’re looking forward to exploring the world of geometry in the coming weeks, and the children are eager to see how shapes fit into the world around them.

English
In English, the children have been working tirelessly on their Christmas stories, inspired by the book Binny’s Diwali. They’ve been so creative, and we can’t wait to read the finished pieces! Next up, we’ll be focusing on writing Christmas poems, so get ready for some festive wordplay and holiday cheer!

Art
In Art, we’ve been experimenting with different mediums to create beautiful drawings. The children have really enjoyed exploring new techniques, and we look forward to seeing their completed Christmas compositions soon. The festive season has truly inspired some fantastic artwork!

A huge thank you to all the parents for their continued support. Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to another busy week ahead! Warm wishes,

Mrs Fernie, Mrs Andrews, Mrs Hicks, and Miss Talbot

Christmas Performances

Christmas Play performance is the best day of the school calendar and this year was no exception. It marks the culmination of weeks of practice, prop making, singing and confidence boosting. It is always a joy to watch the children’s enthusiasm and confidence grow over the weeks as they find themselves taking on the roles assigned and beginning to imagine how best to bring them to life. For some children, this is their favorite part of the year, a time to shine by fully embracing the opportunity showcase a different side to their personality and skill set.

Being a small school inevitably means all hands on deck as cast sizes for the plays are generally much larger than the children we have in our classes so everyone has an important role to play and often means children playing several parts or several parts being amalgamated into one large role. Through the study of the script and analysing the personalities of the different characters using reading skills, the children develop a good understanding of their part. This is further enhanced by their involvement in creating costumes, props and the staging.

As always, the performance was well attended, and the children shone. We are all incredibly proud of their performance and hope you enjoyed the shows as we did. Thank you for all the lovely messages complimenting the children on their performances.

Following on from the successful singing at the Community Christmas Lunch on Tuesday, we are two down, two to go for our community Christmas performances. We hope you can join us singing around the tree on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm on the Wharf and again for our Christmas service at Saint Saviours on Thursday morning at 9am.

Reminder that Tregeagle class has a Geography field trip Tuesday morning, our whole school trip to watch Paddington is on Wednesday and class parties on Thursday/Friday. As always, we finish the term early so pick up is at 1:30pm on Friday.

Trenode C of E VE Primary Academy

Cardinham class - Autumn term

As the school term comes to an end, it's the perfect time to reflect on all the exciting and enriching experiences we've had. From delving into ancient history to exploring the beauty of nature, this term has been packed with opportunities for learning and creativity. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights.
One of the most fascinating parts of this term was our study of the Stone, Bronze, and Iron Ages. We learned about how early humans lived, what tools they used, and how their societies evolved over time. It was exciting to see how much we could learn from the objects and practices of people who lived thousands of years ago.
One of the most enjoyable writing activities was creating our own stories based on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We explored the themes of adventure, bravery, and friendship, and I loved using my imagination to come up with new adventures for the characters. Writing these stories not only helped develop my writing skills but also gave me a deeper appreciation for the book and its magical world.
In computing, we had the chance to create our very own book trailers. We got to pick a book that we loved, think about what makes it exciting, and then design a short trailer to share it with others. It was such a fun way to practice our digital skills while also encouraging creativity and storytelling. The trailers were a great way to promote reading and helped us develop our skills in video editing and presentation.
Our topic on rivers was a highlight of the term. We explored how rivers shape the land, affect the environment, and play an important role in human life. The best part was when we went on a trip to the River Seaton. We had the opportunity to study both the human and physical geography of the area. It was fascinating to see how people have interacted with the river over time, from settlements to the mining community, and to learn about the natural processes that shape the water and surrounding landscape.
The Christmas Crafts Afternoon was a lovely way to celebrate the season. We got creative making all sorts of decorations, from baubles to wreaths, and had a great time sharing the festive spirit. It was also a wonderful chance to take a break from our usual lessons and focus on crafting something special to take home for the holidays. The Christmas Fair was another fantastic event this term. It was full of festive stalls, games, and delicious treats. It was a great way to get into the Christmas spirit while also raising money for our school's PTFA. I had a lot of fun shopping for gifts, enjoying the treats, and participating in the different activities.
In music, we had the privilege of having choir singing lessons with Maggie from the church. She helped us improve our vocal skills and taught us some beautiful songs. The choir sessions were a great way to come together as a group and create something harmonious. It was especially nice to sing songs for the Christmas celebrations, and I’m looking forward to continuing our lessons in the new year.
One of the most magical experiences this term was our trip to Trago Mills, where we got to sing Christmas carols and meet Father Christmas! It was a wonderful way to spread festive cheer, and the look on everyone’s face when we met Father Christmas was priceless. Singing together and celebrating the season as a class made the day extra special, and it was a perfect way to end our festive activities.
To round off the term, we also had the chance to write Christmas shape poems. It was a creative way to express our thoughts about the season, and we shaped our poems into festive images like trees, stars, and snowflakes. It was a fun and artistic way to finish our term with a festive flourish.
This term has been full of learning, creativity, and exploration. I’ve enjoyed every moment and can’t wait for what’s to come in the next term. From more exciting history topics to new adventures in geography and creative projects, there’s so much to look forward to. I’m grateful for all the experiences we’ve had and am excited to continue growing, learning, and creating in the new year. Wishing everyone a joyful holiday season!
